Our name is Tennessee Window and Door Works. The door half is not an afterthought. We install the full Home Guard door line in Knoxville and across East Tennessee, and we install other brands too when that is the better fit for your house.
The Door Came First
Home Guard Industries did not start with windows. It started with a steel security storm door. The Barbieri family built the first one in 1983 in Grabill, Indiana. Home Guard says they are the oldest family owned manufacturer still making that product today.
More than forty years later the same family still runs the plant. On their own site, writing about how their doors get built, Home Guard puts it plainly: their Amish community provides the labor pool behind the quality. That is not a marketing line we made up. That is how the doors are made.
Entry Doors
Your front door does two jobs. It is the first thing people see, and it is the thing standing between your family and whoever is outside. Home Guard builds both jobs into the same door.
Fiberglass
The Signature Series is the top of the fiberglass line. It has the deep grain and the depth of real wood, but it will not warp, crack, rot, or swell shut in August. It comes in cherry, mahogany, oak, and fir grain, and you can hand stain it or paint it any color you want. Inside is an insulated polyurethane core. Home Guard rates that door at an R factor of 15.1.
Two features on it are patented and you will not find them on a builder grade door. The adjustable hinge plate system lets us fine tune the door after it is hung, so the seal stays tight instead of loosening up over the first few winters. The Hydroshield perimeter rails keep water out of the edges of the slab, which is where most fiberglass doors eventually fail.
If you want something simpler, brushed smooth fiberglass gives you a clean modern face, and textured fiberglass gives you the wood look for less. Both have the same insulated core.
Steel
Steel is the strength pick. The 20 gauge smooth steel door is the heaviest one they make and it is built for security first. The 22 gauge door is galvanized steel with no wood parts anywhere in it, and it comes two ways. Smooth, if you want to paint it. Textured in oak grain, if you want to stain it and have it read as wood.
Round Tops and Arch Tops
This one is worth saying out loud. A lot of Knoxville homes have an arched front door opening, and most companies will tell you it has to be a square door with a fake arch above it. Home Guard is one of only a handful of manufacturers in the country that actually builds a true round top and arch top entry door. They come in twenty four baked on colors or twenty hand stained woodgrain finishes.
If someone told you your arched opening could not be replaced, come talk to us.
Security and Storm Doors
The Steel Security Storm Door
This is the original Home Guard product, and it is still the one they are known for. It is a two inch all welded steel frame, not screwed together. It hangs on three seven inch forged steel hinges with screws that cannot be backed out. There are vault pins hidden behind the top and bottom hinges, so the door cannot be peeled off the frame from the hinge side. The strike plate is solid brass with a steel dust box behind it, mounted at the factory. The mortise lock throws a full one inch deadbolt.
The finish is polyester powder coat, not paint, so it does not fade, chip, or chalk the way a painted ornamental door does. There are over thirty styles, twelve colors, and five lock options, and they will build it in almost any size, including round top and eyebrow arch.
It gives you a locked door you can leave open for the breeze. That is the whole point of it.
The Alumiweld Storm Door
Most people want a storm door but hate that it hides the front door they just paid for. The Alumiweld solves that. The main frame is welded at the corners instead of screwed, and because welding makes the corner stronger, Home Guard can make the rails narrower. Narrow rails mean more glass, more light, and more air. Home Guard states it is the only national storm door brand with a welded main frame.
The hinges nest into a track, so the frame carries the weight instead of the screws. That is why these doors do not sag and rattle after a few years. The screen is fiberglass, so it will not dent or punch through like an aluminum screen.
Patio Doors
The Premium Sliding Door
If you have ever put a shoulder into a sliding door to get it moving, you already know the problem. Home Guard built this one for the Quebec market, which means it had to pass Canadian energy codes. It has a heavy multi chamber PVC frame with metal reinforcement in the sash, a multi point lock, and Cardinal glass.
Home Guard calls it the fingertip test. The door is meant to open with one finger. We will let you try it yourself. It comes in two panel and three panel, and you can get blinds sealed between the glass so there is nothing to dust or bend.
French and Savannah Doors
French doors are two full doors that both swing open. You get the whole opening, which matters the day you move a couch. The seal between them travels with the bolts, so it stays tight instead of wearing out at the middle.
A Savannah door is one working door hinged next to a fixed panel, and it is the smart swap if you have an old slider you are tired of. It drops into a standard sliding door opening, it is built from heavy 22 gauge steel, and it comes with a real screen for ventilation.
Three Options Most People Have Never Been Shown
- Burglar Guard. A door is only as strong as the jamb it is bolted to. Home Guard points out that most forced entries come through a door or window, and the piece that gives way is almost always the jamb and the strike plate, not the lock. Burglar Guard reinforces exactly that spot.
- CLiC privacy glass. Clear glass that turns frosted at the touch of a button. No curtains, no blinds, no film. Good for a front door with glass where you still want your light.
- Matching colors across the whole house. Home Guard runs one color system across entry doors, storm doors, patio doors, and windows. Your storm door can match your front door, which can match your windows. Almost nobody does this.
Steel or Fiberglass?
Here is the short honest version. Steel is stronger and costs less. Fiberglass looks more like real wood, dents less, and handles a door that takes hard afternoon sun better. If your front door is shaded by a porch, steel is a great buy. If it bakes in the sun all day or you want a stained wood look, go fiberglass.
Anybody who tells you one is always right is selling you the one they stock.
The Warranty
Home Guard backs these doors with a limited lifetime warranty. Like any warranty it has terms and limits you should actually read. We bring the full document to your free in home consultation and go through it with you before you sign a thing.
Why Buy the Door From Us
We are a local family business in Knoxville and we buy straight from the family that builds the door. There is no national brand in the middle taking a cut, so you get a high end door for less than the big names charge. If something goes wrong, you call us, and we know the people at the plant by name.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you install doors, or just sell them?
We do both. Our own crews measure, order, and install. We do not hand your job off to a subcontractor we have never met.
Can you replace an arched front door?
Yes. Home Guard is one of a small number of manufacturers that builds true round top and arch top entry doors, in both steel and stained woodgrain finishes. Many companies will tell you it cannot be done. It can.
Can I get a locking door I can leave open for air?
That is exactly what the steel security storm door is for. Welded steel frame, forged hinges with vault pins, and a one inch deadbolt, with a screen so you can leave your main door open.
My sliding door sticks. Do I have to replace the whole opening?
No. A Savannah door is sized to drop into a standard sliding door opening, and the Home Guard premium slider is built to glide with one finger. We will look at your opening and tell you which one fits.
Who actually builds these doors?
Home Guard Industries in Grabill, Indiana. It is a family owned plant that has been building doors since 1983, and Home Guard credits its Amish community as the labor force behind the work.
Do you only install Home Guard?
No. Home Guard is our main partner because we believe in the product, but we install other brands as well. If another door is the right answer for your house, we will say so.
